When you need to make the most out of a limited growing area, LED plant and UFO LED lights are ideal. They take a relatively small amount of space and focus light that has the optimal frequency for growing, giving you the most potential from your lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, or houseplants.

Different lights accommodate a variety of spaces, anything from 1.5 square feet to 12 square feet, depending on the size of the growing area. Simply plugged into any electrical outlet, LED plant and UFO LED lights are easily installed, reducing the risk of fires as they require no heavy gauged wiring. There is no electrical experience necessary for installation.

You can turn any area into a growing space for vegetables without having a noticeable effect on the electric bill. These lights use as little as 14 or 15 watts, depending on the size of light, but can deliver the performance you’d get from HPS system of several hundred watts. In fact, compared to HPS lights, LED lights use 85 percent less wattage. This minimizes your carbon footprint on the earth, and allows you to discreetly grow vegetables without the expensive electric bills some growing operations suffer.

Plus, they deliver high performance, utilizing frequencies that are ideal for plant growth. All light emits different frequencies, with the color of light depending on the frequency. White light is actually a compressed rainbow filled with different colors of frequency vibration. Plants, however, don’t need all the light to grow, so they discard what they don’t need. In HPS lights, this is simply wasted energy. LED lights, however, are the exact frequency the plants need to grow and so are completely absorbed into the plant. LED lights provide more nutritional sustenance to the plant as none of its frequencies are wasted.

When you have limited space, it makes sense to make the most of it. LED lights are easy to set up, safe to use, and extremely efficient. Any room can become a plant garden for peppers, lettuce, tomatoes and broccoli year round. In these difficult economic times, growing your own food just makes sense, especially when it can be done anywhere. Any room in the house can provide food and nutrition throughout the entire year.

LA Internet Fast

February 22nd, 2009 Filed under: Internet by admin

These days I have trouble believing that there are still people out there who haven’t discovered the best Los Angeles high speed internet. I see trucks for the cable and phone company that promise all kinds of saving with their fiber optic and DSL internet packages, yet few of them really compare with the pricing, products, and service offered by smaller local companies that have been around for years and specialize in Los Angeles home and business internet. As members of the community, small companies are in the awkward position of having to compete with large national behemoths when it comes to winning your internet business; but they manage to acquire and retain a large base of residential and business companies with their commitment to keeping prices low and service superior. Now more than ever, small local high speed internet Los Angeles providers have to price competitively to acquire and retain customers as larger competitors jockey for market share in a downward economic climate. Some have introduced “economic stimulus packages” of their own, offering bundled VOIP and DSL or broadband services to residences and small businesses at prices that are competitive with the prevailing (often introductory) rates of cable and phone companies.

Price being equal, there are a few reasons to choose an LA-based provider of broadband internet solutions, colocation and hosting services, and hosted PBX networks. First, a smaller network in general translates into fewer possible problems and less routing/infrastructure technology to slow down your access to internet. It also means that you’ll have a sales rep who will visit your business and even your home to put together the right solution for you, and be available for you if and when you encounter any problems with speed or capacity.

Unlike large national companies, the best local internet providers in southern CA will make an effort to retain your business. Rather than being a customer number in their accounts receivable, you will be a customer whose satisfaction is guaranteed not only by these businesses’ small size, but also by the struggle they face now, too, as many businesses and residents alike reconsider whether the expense of high speed downloads and VOIP is really worth the cost of the bandwidth needed to support it. With a local ISP’s competitive pricing, the decision is easy: keep your bandwidth, more of your money, and get better service by doing so.

Finding a condo w/ an Agent I found on Google

February 21st, 2009 Filed under: Chicago condominium by admin

I had been in the market for a Chicago condominium for about six months. Although there were thousands of condos that were for sale I was having difficulty finding the right one. Finding a place that suited all my needs was proving to be quite the challenge. I was looking for a condo that was close to the “L” so that I could use public transportation in order to travel between home and work. I also wanted a condo that had two bedrooms and two baths since I was frequently visited by out of town relatives. The third priority that I had was that I needed a condo that had some type of outdoor balcony area since I enjoyed getting fresh air and sitting outside as much as possible.

I had outgrown the Chicago condominium that I currently resided in. There were two bedrooms, but the guest bedroom was incredibly small and I could barely fit a bed in there let alone a desk with my computer. There was also only one bathroom, which quickly became congested when I had friends or family over. I did enjoy the dining room that I had and the outdoor balcony. It was important for me to find both of these features in my next condo. My current condo was also located only one block away from the “L” station that I used to get to my job in the loop. I needed to find a condo that would also be close enough for me to walk to public transportation.

I was getting frustrated with my real estate agent who kept trying to get me to visit condos that did not meet my standard requirements. There was no point in looking at condos that had only one bathroom, even if they had huge dining rooms and great patios. I needed a condo that had two bathrooms and looking at anything else was a waste of my time. My agent kept trying to convince me that I needed to see what was out there on the market, but really all I wanted to see were condos that had everything that I was looking for.

I finally decided that I needed to switch agents or else I would never find the perfect Chicago condominium at the rate that I was going. This proved to be the best move that I could’ve made, my next realtor took me to see three condos on out first day out and they all had every one of the amenities that I was looking for.

Smile and mean it with help from technology

February 14th, 2009 Filed under: Cosmetic Dentistry by admin

For people looking to improve almost any dental imperfection, the application of tooth veneers can be a solution for perfect teeth. Made from porcelain-like materials, they are applied to the front of teeth, on top of the enamel, and can address a number of common flaws.

For discoloration, they are applied to all of the most discolored teeth in the traditional method: the enamel is filed down in a thickness equal to thickness of the veneer – a fraction of a millimeter. They are then bonded to the tooth with a temporary adhesive to be checked for shape and color. The dentist can shape the veneer to match other teeth, or reconstruct a new overall smile shape if several are being applied at once. In addition, the color of each one can be graded so that the whole set seems entirely natural, but brighter than the natural color. After the color and shape are satisfactory, they are affixed to the tooth with a cement adhesive that will last for 5-10 years or more.

To address gaps between teeth, a dentist can employ tooth veneers in lieu of more expensive orthodontics. The dentist simply shapes the material to a size slightly larger than the teeth at each side of the gap, filling in the gap with the larger, more symmetrical teeth. The result is a perfect set of teeth in just one visit to the dentist, rather than the temporary results achieved by months of wearing expensive orthodontic devices like braces or Invisalign®. Veneers can also be applied on crooked teeth to achieve an appearance of straightness, simply by the way the dentist chooses to creatively cut and place the material on the teeth.

For such an old dental technology, the veneer affords the dentist with a strong aesthetic sensibility the opportunity to improve smiles and drastically change lives in the course of just one or two office visits. One would be hard-pressed to find a technique and technology that is so versatile in the course of day-to-day clinical cosmetic dentistry. Of course, more skilled dentists have found even more uses for them and have employed the same principles to achieve even more amazing results, reconstructing entire smiles out of them where other dentists would have simply called for dentures. These are the true artists – many of them graduates of LVI who are now instructors.

A patriot’s pledge

February 13th, 2009 Filed under: politics by admin

The history of America’s fighting forces is a testament to the power of freedom. In every war fought to preserve the very values this country stands for, America’s military has always answered the call, even when it’s been unpopular to do so. From the fields of Gettysburg to the sands of Iwo Jima, from the icy waters of the Potomac to the blistering hot deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, America’s armed forces have always answered duty’s call bravely, never faltering in their will to protect our freedoms.

As members of the military, we represent more than ourselves. We are part of that history, that legacy that has made this country the promised land of freedom it was always meant to be. When we wear the uniform, we wear it with the pride of Old Glory, a tribute to the legacy of America’s bravest. In the community, in church, in the high school gymnasium, we represent the brave men and women who gave their lives every time we don the uniform. By representing such a strong fighting force, our official military attire should suggest a level of success and elegance. Highlight the prestige of your formal uniform with is a proud display of the medals of America.

In these troubled times, American citizens need to be able to look to the military uniform for a sense of confidence and pride, a sense that America will overcome the darkness and live in the light. What better way to instill this sense of patriotic zeal than a proud display of the medals of America for every formal event you attend, whether it be your niece’s wedding, a visit to an elementary classroom, or a morning religious service of your choice.

In uniform, you represent America’s elite fighting forces, an important symbol to the freedoms of every American citizen. A fine display of ribbons and medals add color and dignity to your formal military attire every time you interact with the community. These are the people you are fighting for. Let them know you are honored to protect them with a dignified display of ribbons. Always look your best. Be proud of the service you are giving your country.

MMA Begining

February 9th, 2009 Filed under: sports by admin

The sport of mixed martial arts better known as MMA has exploded in popularity over the last couple of years and become part of mainstream culture. Today’s fighters use a combination on muay thai, wrestling, and Brazilian jiu jitsu. Most fighters are either known as a striker, meaning they are better on there feet, or as a grappler, meaning they want to take the fight down to the ground; but to be a true mixed martial artist a fighter must be proficient in both striking and grappling.

The very first MMA competition was an eight man tournament with very few rules with the winner receiving a $50,000 grand prize. The concept of this tournament was to face experts of different types of martial arts like Boxing, Karate, Jiu Jitsu, and Wrestling against each other to see which type of self defense worked the best. The competitors included Art Jimmerson a professional boxer with a 29-5 record, Teila Tuli a 400 pound sumo wrestler, and Gerard Gordeau a karate and savant champion.

The smallest competitor in the competition was 170 lbs Royce Gracie. Royce was a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ. BJJ was originated by his father Helio Gracie and Helio’s brother Carlos in their home country of Brazil. BJJ was a ground fighting technique that used submissions that attacked opponents joints like there elbows and knees and chokes on the neck to subdue or make them give up. Royce was able to use these techniques to beat much larger men them himself to win the tournament and to prove that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was the best fighting technique in the world. He would go on to win two more of these tournaments proving that it was no fluke.

Today BJJ is taught all over the world and is one of the most popular forms of martial arts. If you are interested in learning BJJ and attend The University of Texas check out the Texas Jiu Jitsu student organization. For the past several years Texas Jiu Jitsu has helped teach the art of BJJ to the students of UT. It is available to any student currently attending The University of Texas.

High school nostalgia

February 6th, 2009 Filed under: sports by admin

Take it from a former varsity hoops star. When you’re 50 and your knees are giving out, you would love few things more than a memento of your glory days as the starting varsity point guard when you find yourself in a recliner, forty pounds heavier than you were then, with all kinds of responsibilities that you couldn’t even conceive of at your younger age. Documenting your sports life may not seem that important now, but you’ll appreciate having done it when you get to be my age. Thankfully, taking and storing your high school basketball pictures has never been easier, thanks to digital photography and the advent of so many websites that make it easy to save, share, print, and copy photographs as you need want them. Photos you’ll appreciate from your old days come in a variety of formats. The first is the action shot, which will prove to your kids – much to their shock – that you were once able to run, jump, and even score a basket. Many professional services exist for this purpose, but a digital camera set to have no flash that is pre-focused will catch the action. Any snapshot will be impressive – you dribbling the ball up court will be just as impressive as you scoring a layup over two giant opponents. The other aspect you’ll surely want to remember is the camaraderie you had with your teammates. Before or after games, or at team events, be sure to snap a group photo or two that you can post online to share with your teammates and classmates alike. Uniforms are good, but only optional; when you go to your thirtieth high school reunion, this is the photo you’ll want to bring, in case you can only bring one. The third category of photo is the portrait. Any self-respecting athlete needs to be photographed in their uniform with the implements of their sport – for hockey players, a stick and pads; for a basketball player, the ball be sufficient. This will successfully advertise that you were once an athlete and that you were proud of it; and, its status as a portrait might trick even you into thinking you were a lot better than you actually were. New technology has made capturing high school sports action easier than it has ever been. Take it from an old-timer that you will want to have high school basketball pictures when you’re older. Don’t risk losing them in a box; capture them digitally and store them online.
